Penge High Street

Bromley High Street Regeneration

The London Borough of Bromley appointed YOU&ME to design and deliver 12 shopfronts within Penge High Street in consultation with local stakeholders and community groups. Works include developing bespoke designs for shops and artwork graphics focusing on improvements at key junctions which add to the recent public realm works. The improvements are part of the New Homes Bonus Top Slice Programme of regeneration.

As part of the scoping stage, Y&M identified a wayfinding and welcome graphics strategy inclusive of restoration works to key historic buildings with the aim of securing additional funding for phase 2 of the project.

Penge High Street has a number of good local businesses that are well loved within and outside the immediate vicinity. There is a strong sense of a local community with groups such as the Penge Traders, the Penge Tourist Board, Penge Street Art and other local groups all wanting to make Penge a better place. Penge also has a local Town Team which is progressing to develop The Penge Business Improvement District Company.

We’ve been working closely with local businesses to bring out the best of their shops and the products that they sell. Some highlights include: the Polish Deli KACPER, where we transformed the ugly pavement buildout into a quirky Polish ‘hut' displaying delicious deli products; giving GLAMOUR FINGERS a new Art Deco bright bubblegum shopfront which nods to the Art Deco building within which it sits and working with MOBILE ZONE to remove their oversized lightboxes and return the shop to its original proportions with new turquoise and pink timber fascias and drop arm canopies.

“We’re really chuffed! Everyone loves it and we’ve been told we are the best shop on the street”
